Recap: MFMW What’s Next? 2025

On October 23, 2025, our largest side event MFMW What’s Next? took place at the TV studio in the Ludwig Hilmer Building (House 39). Former students returned to Mittweida to share insights into their career journeys in the media industry with open and honest stories about detours, first jobs, formative experiences, professional opportunities, and personal visions for the future.

The discussion was hosted by Amelie and Tarja, who guided the conversation around key questions such as:

  • What does it feel like to be back where it all started?
  • What truly helped when starting out in the industry?
  • Where is the media landscape heading and what skills will be essential in the future?

Our guests included:

  • Jeremias Hahn – Production Engineer, Studio Berlin
  • Josèphine Heidel – Staff Writer, SAXONIA MEDIA
  • Lea Wilhelm – Social Media Editor, KONTER Studios
  • Hannah Bergius – Group Lead Influencer Marketing, SNOCKS
  • Stefan Sander – Sports Journalist, SWR & ARD

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us for an evening full of inspiration and exchange — and a special thanks to our speakers for their openness, perspectives, and valuable insights!

An Evening of Exchange – That Was International Night 2025!

On June 3rd, the rooftop terrace of the Ludwig-Hilmer Building was transformed into a vibrant meeting place for everyone interested in spending a semester abroad or simply curious about new cultural experiences. This year’s International Night offered plenty of inspiration on the topic of studying abroad.

Prof. Volker Tolkmitt, Rector of Mittweida University of Applied Sciences, together with the International Office, officially opened the evening with a welcoming speech, warmly greeting all attendees.

In a relaxed atmosphere, both incoming and outgoing students shared their experiences from Brazil, England, Finland, Italy, Ukraine, and South Korea. The presentations provided not only practical insights into organization and daily life abroad, but also personal impressions.

Afterwards, there was plenty of time for conversations, questions, and networking. With delicious food, music, and summery weather, many participants engaged in lively discussions and made new connections.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone involved and to all our guests for making this a wonderful evening!

SONY Video Workshop 2025

On March 26, 2025, our side event “SONY Video Workshop” took place. Students had the opportunity to participate in a hands-on workshop led by Mike Suminski, a filmmaker and photographer from Berlin. They were able to thoroughly test the Sony FX3 and gain valuable insights into its features.

A special highlight was the raffle: Participants had the chance to win a pair of Sony ULT-Wear headphones. To enter the competition, participants formed teams of two and created a social media-friendly video about the headphones, which they then uploaded to the Sony Creator’s Cloud.

The task was to produce a 30-second commercial for the headphones.

On May 14, the “MFMW - Ideas Competition” took place in cooperation with Janus Productions at Mittweida University of Applied Sciences. Students at our university had the opportunity to submit an innovative concept for a new television format as part of the 2025 federal elections - and earn prize money of up to €1000.

Sebastian von Wurmb-Seibel and Florian Falkenstein visited us as representatives to review our students' ideas.

We would like to thank all participants and Janus Productions for their cooperation.

An inspiring evening dedicated to space travel!

On May 15, we held our fourth side event as part of International Week, the “MFMW - CineNight”. Space enthusiasts gathered at the Filmbühne Mittweida to watch the documentary “Der Mann, der nie im All war” together.

The film tells the fascinating story of Tassilo Römisch, a passionate collector of space exhibits whose collection comprises over 100,000 items. His experiences and dedication to space travel, from rocket launches to the anecdote about the impressive rocket engine in the Mittweida canteen, captivated everyone.

A special highlight of the evening was the visit from Tassilo Römisch himself. He shared his impressions of the film and gave exciting insights into the current state of space travel. In the Q&A session that followed, he enthusiastically answered every question from the participants.

Many thanks to everyone who made this evening so special. We look forward to many more inspiring events!

As an artist, how do you properly showcase your own identity? What is important in social media marketing and what values define an artist?

Almost two weeks ago, we welcomed Alexandra “Ally” Viehweg and Anne Charlott Brantin to our sixth side event “MFMW - Musikkiosk Mittweida”.

Ally Viehweg has over ten years of professional experience as a producer and has a wealth of knowledge about the music industry. Anne Brantin works as a content creator at the Berlin social media agency charles & charlotte, which has already worked with partners such as Nikon Europe, Jack Wolfskin and MiXery.

In the “Artist Identity” workshop, Ally Viehweg showed how musicians can clearly define and authentically market their artistic personality. Anne Brantin led the second workshop and offered participants the opportunity to produce and directly analyze creative social media content.

“MFMW - Musikkiosk Mittweida” was created in collaboration with KREATIVES SACHSEN, POP IMPULS and the Mittweida University of Applied Sciences.
